Dr. Gary Michels, DDS
Dr. Gary Michels is a passionate professional dedicated to the art and science of creating beautiful, confident faces. With over 40 years of experience, Dr. Gary Michels has become a trusted and transformative figure in eastern North Carolina; he combines technical expertise with a keen eye for detail to help patients achieve their esthetic goals. His journey has been driven by a passion for enhancing not just smiles but the overall confidence and well-being of his patients.
He has lectured to dental professionals across North Carolina, founded a learning center dedicated to post-graduate education, authored best-selling books—including Unusual Success in Dentistry and New Smile, New You! —and holds a patent for a groundbreaking dental device.
His commitment to advancing education and aesthetics is reflected in his tenure as an adjunct professor at East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine and his collaboration with leading pioneers in cosmetic dentistry, such as Dr. Ronald Goldstein and Larry Rosenthal.
Beyond his profession, Dr. Michels is deeply committed to community service. He co-founded The Dream Factory of North Carolina, which has fulfilled over 250 dreams for seriously ill children.

Dr. Chris Gauquie, DDS
Dr. Chris Gauquie has been a North Carolina resident for over 40 years. He received his undergraduate degrees from North Carolina State University and his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the Medical College of Virginia, where he graduated with honors. He was involved in student government and was an active member of the Psi Omega Dental fraternity.
He is recognized for his commitment to continuous learning, earning a Fellowship in the International Congress of Oral Implantology and staying at the forefront of advanced dental and esthetic care. Dr. Gauquie seamlessly combines skill, artistry, and innovation to provide exceptional care. Dr. Gauquie’s approach integrates dental expertise with facial esthetics, focusing on providing personalized solutions that radiate confidence and balance.
Outside the office, Dr. Gauquie leads an active lifestyle, enjoying golf, family beach outings, and travel adventures with his wife, Heather, and their three children—Drea, Britt, and Kellan.
Dr. David Harrington DMD
Dr. David Harrington, a member of the inaugural class, earned his DMD degree from East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine. He is trained and experienced in performing dental surgeries, including bone grafting, implant placement, and full-mouth rehabilitation. Dr. Harrington is passionate about cosmetic dentistry and offers IV sedation for patient comfort. He has extensively studied and trained in the latest advancements in dentistry, such as digital design and 3D printing.
Dr. Harrington values a team environment, commitment to exceptional patient experience, and dedication to innovation, technology, and lifelong learning. His mission is to help innovate in all areas of dentistry while providing tailored, individual care for each patient he meets.
Dr. David Harrington was born and raised in Southern Pines, North Carolina. He earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from The University of North Carolina at Wilmington. David and his wife Paige met in Wilmington and have two children, Lawson, 13, and Blake, 8. Their family enjoys traveling, camping, hiking, and watching movies, and they especially love any activities that involve water.
Dr. Sarah Harrell DMD
Dr. Sarah Langley Harrell is a Pitt County native. She graduated with honors from UNC-Chapel Hill with a degree in Exercise and Sport Science and minor in Spanish before returning home to Greenville where she graduated from East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine.
Dr. Harrell is a member of the American Dental Association and North Carolina Dental Society. She is committed to maintaining the highest level of continuing education and vows to be a lifelong student. Dr. Harrell enjoys serving in her church and volunteers in the community regularly.
As a longtime patient of Michels & Gauquie, Dr. Harrell is thrilled to have come full circle and now be working alongside the incredible team that always made her experience so positive.
Dr. Harrell and her husband, Morgan, have a two year old son and a beloved cockapoo named Cooper. Dr. Harrell and her family enjoy being outdoors, particularly on the water or at the beach. They love cheering on the Pirates!
Dr. Jake Carter DDS
Dr. Jake Carter was born in Chantilly, VA. He graduated from Virginia Tech in 2019 with a B.S. in Biological Sciences. He then attended Virginia Commonwealth University for dental school, where he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree and met his soon-to-be wife, Mary Lisa Sypawka. Together, they live in Greenville with their dog, Henry. While they are not working, they love to exercise, socialize, or spend time with friends and family. Dr. Carter also enjoys a weekend round of golf whenever he can get out onto the course!
Dr. Carter is an active member of the North Carolina Dental Society and the ADA. He has a passion for restorative dentistry, prosthodontics, oral surgery, and loves to get to know each of his patients individually. He stays up-to-date on the latest research, techniques, and materials in the world of dentistry because he believes in using evidence to ensure that his patients receive the best treatment possible. His commitment to continued education ensures that his patients receive the highest standard of care. He believes that there is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ treatment plan and that everyone deserves service that is personally tailored to their desires and needs.
